Privacy Policy

How we handle the small amount of personal information you share with us.

Who we are

This website is operated by Valentin Petkov under the Val Publishing House publishing brand. For the purposes of applicable data-protection law, Valentin Petkov is the data controller for personal information processed through this website, the contact form and the newsletter.

Information we collect

We only collect information that you choose to provide, together with the limited technical records we need to run the site and its email systems:

  • Contact-form information you voluntarily submit, including your name, email address, selected enquiry type or subject and the content of your message.
  • Newsletter email addresses voluntarily submitted by subscribers.
  • Technical email-delivery records necessary to operate and troubleshoot contact notifications, welcome emails and unsubscribe functionality.

Contact enquiries are delivered to the Val Publishing House contact email address rather than stored in a dedicated submissions database on this website. Technical delivery records are logged so that emails can be sent, monitored and troubleshooted reliably.

Purposes and lawful bases

  • Contact enquiries. We process the information you submit through the contact form in order to receive, manage and respond to your message. This is done on the basis of our legitimate interest in operating the publishing brand and communicating with people who contact us, or, where relevant, in order to take steps at your request before entering into any potential arrangement.
  • Newsletter. We send newsletter and marketing emails on the basis of your consent, which you give when you subscribe.
  • Technical operation. Limited technical records may be processed on the basis of our legitimate interest in operating, securing and troubleshooting the website and email systems.

We do not use your information for unrelated purposes.

Newsletter

Subscription to the Val Publishing House newsletter is voluntary.

Subscribers receive publishing news, new-book updates and related content from Val Publishing House. You can unsubscribe at any time using the unsubscribe method provided in the emails you receive. Withdrawing your consent does not affect processing that took place before your consent was withdrawn.

Data sharing and service providers

We do not sell your personal information. Trusted technology providers may process limited personal data on our behalf only as necessary to host and operate the website, database and email-delivery functions. These providers act under appropriate contractual and confidentiality arrangements and only for the purposes described in this policy.

International processing

Some of the technology providers we rely on may process data in countries outside the United Kingdom. Where this happens and applicable data-protection law requires it, we rely on appropriate safeguards for such transfers.

Retention

  • Contact enquiries and related correspondence are kept only as long as reasonably necessary to respond, manage the relationship, maintain appropriate records or meet legal obligations.
  • Newsletter subscriber information is kept until you unsubscribe or the subscription data is otherwise no longer needed.
  • Limited suppression or unsubscribe information may be retained where necessary to respect your request not to receive further marketing.
  • Technical delivery records are kept only as long as reasonably necessary for operational, security and troubleshooting purposes.

Your rights

Under UK data-protection law, you have rights in relation to your personal information, including the right to request access to it, to ask for correction or erasure, to restrict or object to certain processing, to request data portability where applicable, and to withdraw any consent you have given.

You can exercise any of these rights by writing to hello@valpublishinghouse.com.

You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) about how your personal information is handled. You do not have to contact us first before contacting the regulator, although we would welcome the opportunity to address any concern you may have.

Cookies and analytics

Val Publishing House does not currently use Google Analytics, the Meta Pixel, the TikTok Pixel, Hotjar or other advertising or behavioural analytics tools on this website.

Essential technologies may be used where necessary for the website to operate, remain secure or provide requested functionality. If non-essential analytics or advertising tracking is introduced in the future, this notice will be updated accordingly, and, where required by applicable law, appropriate consent will be sought at that time.

Children

The website and newsletter are not specifically directed at children. We do not knowingly seek to collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated from time to time as the website, services or legal requirements change. When we make changes, we will update the "Last updated" date shown at the top of this page.
