The House

Our Philosophy

What we believe about books, readers, and the long work of publishing.

In a single sentence

"Publishing books that educate, inspire and build worlds."

Why we publish

Val Publishing House exists because we believe that books still matter. In an age of distraction, a well-made book is a quiet room: a place where the reader can think, feel, learn, and imagine without interruption.

We are an independent place for books built to endure. Our role is not to chase trends, but to find manuscripts that deserve a long life — works that preserve knowledge, inspire imagination, encourage curiosity, and build connections across generations and civilisations.

This means choosing carefully. It means editing thoroughly. It means designing with restraint and printing with care. And it means publishing authors who share our respect for the reader's time, intelligence and imagination.

Seven Principles

What we publish, and why.

  1. 01

    Quality before quantity

We would rather publish one book that endures than twenty that vanish. Each title is chosen, edited and produced with patience.

  2. 02

    Meaning before information

Facts are plentiful; understanding is rare. We look for manuscripts that connect ideas to feeling, and information to wisdom.

  3. 03

    Respect for the reader

Every book asks for the reader's time, attention and trust. We honour that by refusing noise, padding and unnecessary complexity.

  4. 04

    Build worlds, not products

A book is not a unit of content. It is a doorway into a world. Our authors build civilisations, languages, histories and philosophies.

  5. 05

    Preserve and connect

Books preserve what civilisations cannot afford to forget. They also connect readers across generations, languages and borders.

  6. 06

    Slow publishing

In a fast world, we choose slow craft. Better research, deeper editing, more careful design, and a longer life on the shelf.

  7. 07

    Never stop creating

Every great journey begins with an idea. We remain curious, open and committed to the next unexpected discovery.

What we look for

Manuscripts with a reason to exist.

We read every submission with one question in mind: will this book still matter in twenty years? If the answer is yes, we look deeper. If the answer is uncertain, we decline politely.

We publish across genres — essays, fiction, world-building, history, philosophy — but always in service of the same idea: that a book should leave the reader with more than it asks for.

We are not interested in novelty for its own sake. We are interested in truth, beauty, craft, and the patient shaping of ideas into forms that last.

A promise

Every book is a door.

We will keep that door open, keep the room well-lit, and invite readers who believe, as we do, that civilisations are built by the stories they choose to remember.
